Christ the King Invites You
Rev. Dr. T. Ray Wheeler

1 Samuel 8:4-20 & John 18:33-37
This is Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of our Liturgical year. This Sunday reminds us that Christ is the King over all creation. The idea of a human king has negative implications. We see this in our Old Testament reading when Israel asks Samuel to appoint a King so they can be like other nations. The Lord tells Samuel to be clear to the people about what it means to serve under an earthly King. We contrast this with King Jesus before Pilate when Pilate interrogates Jesus about Christ being called the King of the Jews. We serve a heavenly King who invites us to serve and love him, rather than demands our unquestioning allegiance.

Coming Next Week (Dec 1) - Children First and OneWorship as Advent kicks off!
On December 1, you may want to worship twice! At 9 a.m., our Youth will be leading our December Children First while the kids focus on getting ready for the Christmas play later in the month. You don't want to miss the surprises in store from these incredibly talented young people! And then at 11 a.m. in OneWorship, we kick off Story, our Advent series looking at classic children's Christmas stories alongside Bible stories - with a special gift each week for our families and elementary school partners thanks to the generosity of the Joseph and Mary Mae Jones estate. Come to both and be doubly blessed!

We have learned that Walmart Gives is back up and running for this month.  If you can give through it so that the church can receive some matching funds, it would be greatly appreciated (We are listed as First Methodist Church, our address is 201 NW 2nd St, Bentonville AR).  Please let Chandra know her email is  if any other giving needs to be paused for the month. Also, remember that when they reach the amount they have allotted to match, the program stops, so the sooner you can respond, the more likely the matching funds will be available.
